| | DJ Sunderland - Supermassive Mandy | ] | Ok so blah blah Kansas won the national championship nobody cares.
What I care about is, in the post-game press conference, one of the Kansas players said:
Player: "Yeah after Mario hit that shot I just knew we had the game. I was like 'You gotta believe!'" Reporter: "...you actually said 'You gotta believe', you used that phrase?" Player: "Yeah. You gotta believe."
And all I could think about was Parappa the Rapper. |

My phone was ringing but I didn't know what was happening. I was dead asleep and dreaming of a sandwich. I'd been eating it slowly and after every bite I said, "This is a good sandwich." Then I heard the phone and the dream was gone and my sandwich was lost to me forever. I sat straight up in bed and salt slid down my bare chest. I threw the sheet off of me and salt scattered over the carpet. That's when I realized I was naked, and that I had salt in my hair. Saturday mornings are always strange for me. I let the phone ring like I always do. There's never anyone to talk to and even if there is I'd let them leave a message and just call them back sometime on my own terms. I don't understand people who bitch about telemarketers. You're asking people to bother you when you pick up the phone. It's like inviting a vampire into your house and then complaining because he bit you. You can't blame them. It's what they do. Just don't answer the phone goddamnit. The phone kept ringing. It was 6:27 and I looked around for my clothes. My shirt was folded under the bed next to my shoes, but my pants where nowhere to be found. That was strange, even for a Saturday morning. My answering machine picked up, and after the beep there came a voice: "hel-lo-shane-are-you-there-shane-are-you-there," it said. It wasn't human. It was like one of those robots from the old Battlestar Galactica, flat and toneless, breaking up every syllable without inflection. "wake-up-shane-pick-up-the-phone." I would have done whatever it asked. "Hello?" I said. "shane-did-I-wake-you-up." "UH, yes?" My voice broke like I was thirteen years old. "do-you-know-who-this-is." "Uhm, no?" It sounded like someone from the future who was about to give me really bad news. I was petrified. "come-on-think." There was nothing to think about. I was still half asleep, but I was sure that I didn't know any robots. None who would be calling me anyways. I wasn't going to suddenly remember a robot I had been friend with in high school whom I'd lost touch with over the years. To make things more complicated, I was naked and about to piss my bed, and I had salt in my hair. "i-will-give-you-a-hint," the voice said without emotion. "you-are-stink." "Marlene?" I said. My god, what had they done to her.
I drummed my fingers on the wrought-iron railing and waited for Marlene. Obviously, as I was writhing and crying on my bed of salt, I realized through the excruciating pain that she probably hadn't turned into a robot, and that she was probably using some deaf telephone conversion machine, one that translates speech into text. Then she'd read what I said and type her own words and the robot voice would say it for her. Obviously she wasn't a robot. But it would have been kind of cool if she was. |

| | Fischerspooner - A Kick tn the Teeth | ] | I just finished my last final exam for the semester, so ok. It was the microfabrication class, which was all in all very uninteresting and uninformative aside from the last two weeks getting to go inside the clean room and actually fabricate some ICs. I'm kinda counting on some type of curve to pass the class, which there should be since the average on the first test [and the only graded assignment we've been given back all semester] was below a 50%. Problem is, the professor comes across as a lot more of a "I know this, so why don't you?" type than a "Maybe the teacher is supposed to teach" kind of guy. I'm not getting my hopes up. What can I say, I'm pretty fail. That said, it's over so it's over. I've signed up for an extra class towards graduation for next semester, so even if I don't end up passing this one I should be ok. It's all buddhist, baby.
Last night I bowled a 279 while listening to "True Skool" by Coldcut. Between that and "Timber" I've been playing the hell out of that guy this week. Hoo boy. The 279 was fun, but it was pretty depressing leaving a ringing 10 pin in the 7th frame because I knew I wasn't going to miss. I was pretty locked in and the line I was rolling was pretty can't-miss. Flushed all 12, 11 of them struck. Oh well, eventually I'll do it. I've got faith.
Tell the badman "get out! move from here!" Tonight we celebrate like we don't care You just pump your fist and slam your footsie If you can't dance, just wiggle your tootsie
Jah dub is where it's at.
Last night was my first night using a new supplement I found called "Melatonin", which is supposed to help regulate sleep cycles and whatnot. It seemed to work pretty well, in that I was able to force myself to sleep at around midnight and was able to wake up at 6 and not feel too bad. I was pretty consistently waking up every hour or so during the night, but I was able to get back to sleep and all in all it was a fairly refreshing night. We'll see how that goes. Also blah blah talk talk random facts. I'm not even angry, I'm being so sincere right now. Even though you broke my heart and killed me and tore me to pieces and threw every piece into a fire. As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you!
There's really no point to this journal entry beyond the first sentence. If you made it this far, that means you are a true friend. Thank you, friend. It's people like you who make life worth living.
